Bird On A Wire – Edited

Superstars Mel Gibson and Goldie Hawn team up in this non-stop action-comedy directed by John Badham. Hiding under the FBI Witness Protection Program, Rick Jarmin (Gibson) gets nervous when old flame Marianne Graves (Hawn) recognizes him. But before he can assume a new identity, the man he put in jail (David Carradine) is released and comes to pay his respects. Rick and Marianne find themselves thrown together on an exhilarating cross-country scramble, barely evading the gangsters, police and an amorous veterinarian (Joan Severance). Their whirlwind travels eventually lead to an unforgettable climax in an elaborate zoo exhibit. PBS-TV calls the film “a roller coaster of a movie with hot action and wild humor! This Bird soars!”

Dove Review

Although predictable and containing many chase scenes, I really liked this film. I am a big fan of Mel Gibson and Golde Hawn, but to see them together was a treat. Rick Jarmin (Gibson) is in the FBI Witness Protection Program and Marianne Graves (Hawn) just happens upon Rick, her old boyfriend at a gas station. He denies being the old boyfriend, but Marianne won’t give up because she thinks he is. There are many funny scenes that follow as the two of them go from situation to situation in their attempt to run from the people Rick had put in jail with his testimony. Since Rick has been in the Witness Protection Program for awhile, he has taken on many different aliases. One funny moment comes when Maianne discovers that Rick used to be a hairdresser and the man he used to work for demands that Rick does his hair. The demeanor that Gibson uses is very funny albeit a typical stereotype for hairdressers.
