I thoroughly enjoyed “Radio”. I found myself drawn deep, realizing this is based on a true story. I believe this movie will become a classic, along with “Rudy” and “Hoosier’s”. All three movies involve football/basketball teams, with huge doses of integrity; something lacking greatly in today’s world. Ed Harris plays a believable low-key, winning coach who’s very aware of his total environment. When “Radio” comes upon the scene, pushing a grocery cart with his stuff in it, he reaches out to him after some of his players have terrorized the mentally-challenged young man. The unfolding of the story depicts the coach’s character, as he brings Radio daily to school, and the coach’s ongoing inability to connect with his own teenage daughter. The reaction’s of the town’s people to Radio are a comment on all of us: we shrink inwardly from those who are different; distancing ourselves with pat answers. The coach [Ed Harris] never backs down when confronted by the school board and his buddies in the barber shop. This is a great movie! I can see a family viewing it many times and learning fresh insights every time.
