If not for one word, and an audibly faint profanity at that, “Rocky lV” would have been approved by Dove. However, The Dove Foundation does not approve films which use God’s name in vain and there is one uttrerance of that in a Moscow scene in the film. It would not have been appropriate for young children anyways as the character of Apollo Creed is literally killed by the mammoth Russian Ivan Drago, who displays his freakish strength in the ring by punching Creed’s lights out for good. Rocky defends Apollo’s honor by meeting the Russian in the ring on Christmas day and he shows him his heart. Too bad that one word wasn’t edited out of this one. The Russian Drago uses steroids to increase his strength but Rocky defeats him with natural training.
