A few months after their mishaps in Romance in the Wilds, Jessica and Buck are reunited for the holidays — this time, with Buck’s family! When Buck is called away to work once again, Jessica spends the next few weeks with Buck’s mom, Janine, and sister, Roma. As Janine struggles to warm up to Jessica, Jessica realizes there may be trouble on the horizon with one of Buck’s former coworkers, Meg. As the story unfolds, viewers watch as Buck struggles with a former life, Roma and Janine come to terms with lost lovers, and Jessica realizes that the role of a first responder’s significant other will not always be easy.
One of the best parts about Christmas in the Wilds is getting to know the characters introduced in Romance in the Wilds. Jessica and Buck, the two main characters, show an immense amount of character development and we even get to see more of the supporting characters: Janine, Roma, and Amara. The writers of this film did a great job of sharing just a little bit more about each character without drowning out the plot. The storyline is just as believable as it was in the former film.
While this movie is very well made and well written, it does seem like the characters pick up exactly where Romance in the Wilds left off while the setting advances a few months. It does not allude to any relationship development between Buck and Jessica in the months that have (clearly) passed. This is quickly resolved, however, as the plot develops.
Christmas in the Wilds is an entertaining Christmas film that strays from only a romance movie to a film filled with plot twists, action, and, of course, romance. With clear audio and exceptional videography, this movie is an excellent choice for family movie nights during the holiday season!
Christmas in the Wilds is Dove approved for all ages.
