This inspiring show manages to make a dramatic point-that is, that dreams are wonderful but can potentially lead us into temptations to do wrong to achieve our desires. If achieving a dream reaches the point of “at whatever cost,” than more is lost than won. The film succeeds based on a good story and an excellent cast.
Tom Hern plays a good man named Jess, a fast runner who would never race for money. He would only run to support a good cause. He is the favorite to win in a race set up by local town businessman Hugh Brant (Todd Rippon), who is as tricky as a fox and shrewd, with plans to have the local town people bet on Jess, while he plots to interfere with the race to that a Swedish man named Tugen (Kelson Henderson) wins.
Tugen likes the local school teacher, a beautiful woman named Mary (Marama Jackson). The $50 prize for winning the race would allow him to buy and donate books to the school, something dear to her heart. There is a problem, however, and that is that Jess is the fastest runner. Enter Brant, who plots to make sure that Jess loses the race. If this involves nails in his shoe, and drugging his port, well…so be it.
We won’t spoil the conclusion, but we will say that during the race Tugen figures out that Jess has been set up. This is a remarkable show, packing a lot into its 26-minute run time. Featuring romance, an exciting race, and principles of integrity, it has earned and merits our Dove seal for All Ages. It’s not intended for young children but has an overriding wholesome theme. And the inspiring music is nice as well.
