Dove Review

The side-splitting humor of Lucille Ball is timeless, as proven by this hilarious episode of this sixties’ classic TV series. The laughs abound as various lines of dialogue hit the right note, and the funny bone. For example, Lucy tells her friend Mary Jane that an efficiency expert is arriving at her bank job to analyze how well Lucy’s boss, Mr. Mooney (Gale Gordon), is doing his job. “Is he worried?” asks Mary Jane. “Is he!” says Lucy. “I haven’t seen him so scared since his wife started taking karate lessons!” Lucy’s character is named Lucy Carmichael in the show.

Lucy goes on to tell Mary Jane that Mr. Mooney is so frugal he makes her straighten out bent paper clips and has her send out the typewriter ribbon to be dry cleaned!

Soon, the efficiency expert, played by Phil Silvers (McHale’s Navy) shows up, and he is picky about every move they make. He promotes Lucy, believing she is more efficient than her boss. However, when Lucy is placed on a factory toy line to place heads, saddles, and tails on passing horses, as well as other toys on the line, she soon finds it tougher going than she would have first realized.

The comic timing of Lucy, Gale Gordon and Phil Silvers is dead on and helps to make this episode funny. In one scene, the efficiency expert (Silvers) says that his bald head is a result of him pulling his own hair out, so he doesn’t have to take time to comb it!

This wholesome episode has met our Dove guidelines as a wholesome form of entertainment and has procured our Dove seal for All Ages.
