The script for “Bowling Alone” is a new twist on the inspirational sports story. A middle-aged man is offered a shot at his long-time dream-a spot on the PBA. However, there is much to lose since he now has the responsibility of having a high-school daughter to support as a single father. The writing is good, even if some lines do come across as being corny and the scenes do seem short at times.
As the script stands now, it is a near-miss in being Dove-approved. There is some language, including many sexual references. And there are violent themes in this film though the overall theme of following your dream, no matter what is at stake, is a great tried-and-true theme. The unconventional sports subject of bowling is a positive element.
