This movie hits hard on the pros and cons of cochlear implants. A couple’s little boy Adam lost his hearing when he was four, and he is now eight. Adam’s mother has been deaf since the age of four. Her mom and dad are both deaf and use sign language to speak. They don’t see why Adam needs the implant because they feel very normal as they are. Adam’s father can hear and wants to have the cochlear implant put in so Adam can have a voice conversation with him.
They both have such strong feelings on the implant issue. They file for divorce and end up in court to decide custody. The parents then realize that the life they and Adam have had till now has been very good to them, and they don’t need a judge to decide things for them. The situation is resolved by film’s end. This movie is happily awarded our Dove “Family Approved” Seal.
