Synopsis

Garrett’s Gift tells the inspiring story of African American inventor Garrett Morgan. Narrated by award-winning actress and vocalist Queen Latifah, Garret’s Gift teaches us that we are all born with a gift, something that is ours alone, but what is most important is that we give that gift back to the world. Garrett’s Gift is illustrated by Coretta Scott King award-winner R. Gregory Christie, with original music by Coati Mundi of Kid Creole and the coconuts.

Dove Review

Queen Latifah brings this simple story of “Garrett’s Gift” to life with her animated expression and captivating voice. This true story of Garrett Morgan, the inventor of the traffic light (among other things) is a wonderful way to introduce children to a not-so-well-known name. The movie itself is very simplistic as it is like listening to someone reading a book through the TV. There are a few simple motions throughout the “book”, but what captivates the most is the story itself.

This DVD would make a wonderful addition to a teacher’s library, but children will love to have this one come home as well! This educational, inspirational, family-friendly movie is easily awarded the Dove “Family-Approved” Seal, for its wonderful quality and content!
