Dove Review

This is an interesting read. I read it straight through. The characters are very well defined, especially Lorenzo, Omar, Frankie and Kasheera. A supervisor at a collections agency, named Lorenzo, owes a loan shark some big bucks. Pay day finally comes and he has a limited time to pay off the loan or he will wind up in a cement block in the lake. The loan shark’s nephew, Omar, is ordered to live with Lorenzo to make sure he doesn’t escape. When Lorenzo and Omar wind up at a Christian choir practice and the Life Enrichment Center, the plot becomes more and more interesting. The script includes some humorous moments, such as when Lorenzo displays his biblical ignorance by stating that Samson fought the giant Goliath, and he quotes the Bible with the Emma Lazarus poem on the Statue of Liberty: “Come unto me all you who are tired and poor..the huddled masses..longing..” And he concludes a short speech by saying, “As Tiny Tim said, ‘God bless us everyone'”. Omar shines when he plays a song on the piano at the center, and the response of the audience causes him to brush tears away from his eyes. This includes some mature themes such as a few violent scenes, and we are recommending the read for ages twelve plus. This story shows a definite growth in the characters and we gladly award it our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal. I can’t wait to see the movie!
