A young poor boy becomes the famous St. Nick! This films tells a good story and moves quickly, as it is only seventy minutes long. Young Nicholas, left for adoption, winds up being “temporarily” adopted by a family, and then when hardships hit the village, including a loss of crops, a stern man named Crazy Isaac, who lives outside the village, is the only one who can afford to take young Nicholas in. He insists on being called “Master” and he calls the boy “Brat”. But Nicholas gets to work in a wood shop as a carpenter, and he loves making wooden toys to give to the villagers at Christmas.
As the story progresses, we learn that there is more to Crazy Isaac than Nicholas first realized, and he begins to soften toward the boy as he opens up to share a painful past. Soon Nicholas finds his true destiny and a legend is born! We note that this is a foreign film, and although there are no subtitles, the English is dubbed and it is obvious in a few scenes. This really doesn’t detract from the well-woven story, which is a wonderful story for the entire family, and we happily award it our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal.
