Dove Review

This nicely animated video gives the viewer an idea of what life would have been like with Jesus, based on the scriptures. The DVD begins with Isaiah’s prophecy that a child would be born, and would be given to the people. This is fulfilled when the angel Gabriel announces the birth of Jesus to his soon-to-be mother, Mary. Mary states she is a virgin but the angel explains the Holy Spirit will perform the miracle and she will have a son, and he shall be a savior.

The DVD shows the birth of Jesus in the stable, Jesus at age twelve, his baptism, his choosing of the twelve disciples, and his teaching and miracles. It concludes with the Last Supper, his prayer in Gethsemane, his crucifixion on the cross, and his subsequent resurrection. Satan appears to tempt Jesus at the beginning of Jesus’ ministry, and he is pictured as a hooded creature with red eyes and green hands.

There is some blood which is briefly seen flowing as Jesus is nailed by his hands and feet to the cross, but the scenes are brief and not gratuitous. This is a UK production, and it was interesting to hear Mary speak with a British accent! The voice of Jesus seemed appropriate, with the actor speaking the lines in a calm yet authoritative manner. The DVD sticks very close to scripture, but I noticed the narrator said the disciples gradually believed in Jesus’ resurrection, and in point of fact only Thomas initially questioned the resurrection. Overall, this is a nice production and one which both children and adults can enjoy, as they watch the life of Jesus. We happily award our Dove Seal to the DVD for all ages.
