The Muppets

On vacation in Los Angeles, Walter, the world’s biggest Muppet fan, and his friends Gary (Jason Segel) and Mary (Amy Adams) from Smalltown, USA, discover the nefarious plan of oilman Tex Richman (Chris Cooper) to raze the Muppet Theater and drill for the oil recently discovered beneath the Muppets’ former stomping grounds. To stage The Greatest Muppet Telethon Ever and raise the $10 million needed to save the theater, Walter, Mary and Gary help Kermit reunite the Muppets, who have all gone their separate ways: Fozzie now performs with a Reno casino tribute band called the Moopets, Miss Piggy is a plus-size fashion editor at Vogue Paris, Animal is in a Santa Barbara clinic for anger management, and Gonzo is a high-powered plumbing magnate. With secret, signature, celebrity cameos, “The Muppets” hits the big screen Nov. 23, 2011

Dove Review

2011 Crystal Dove Seal Award Winner for Best Comedy – The Muppets are back and are we glad! This movie is escapism wrapped in fun! All your favorites return including Kermit, Miss Piggy, Animal, Fozzie and the rest of the beloved gang, back for their first fun-filled movie in a long time.

One gentleman who sat behind me laughed so hard it nearly hurt my ears! A friend of mine who also screened the movie said she cried. I think a lot of Muppet fans were glad to see their favorites back on screen. In the movie’s plot a rich man named, appropriately Richman (Chris Cooper), plans to keep the Muppets from taking back their former studio because he plans to drill for oil below the premises. The dream of reuniting the Muppets starts with Walter (Peter Linz) who happens to resemble a Muppet himself, though he has been raised as a brother to a human named Gary (Jason Segel). Gary devotes a lot of time to Walter, to the point of ignoring the woman he loves, Mary, played with great energy by Amy Adams. Jason Segel and Amy Adams almost steal the show with some of their song-and-dance numbers. Soon Gary and Mary and Walter are off to L.A. from Smalltown, with the hopes of Walter seeing anything Muppet related. Little do they know how big a part Walter will play in a full-scale Muppet reunion.

Walter convinces Kermit the frog to find his former companions and bring them back together for a Telethon to save the Muppet studio. Soon Kermit is off in pursuit of Fozzie, Gonzo, Animal, Miss Piggy and the rest of the gang. Of course nothing comes easy and Kermit faces several challenges in getting everyone back together. To add to the pleasantries in the movie, some rather famous celebrities make cameo appearances including Jack Black, who actually is instrumental in the film’s plot. Also making appearances are Whoopi Goldberg, Emily Blunt, Alan Arkin, Selena Gomez and Mickey Rooney as well as others.

The laughter pops up often as it does in one scene when it looks as if the Muppet reunion won’t take place and Mary says, “This is going to be a really short movie!” The ending is exciting with Tex Richman doing everything in his power to thwart the Muppets from reaching their financial goal to save their beloved studio. The old gang is back with song and dance numbers and a whole lot of laughter. Some very nice themes are featured in the movie including forgiveness and pulling together as a team to accomplish a common goal. We are more than happy to award our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal to “The Muppets”. Make sure and see Kermit and the gang soon or you might be one of the few who don’t and you wouldn’t want to be “green” with envy, now would you?

Slapstick violence such as a character being sprung off a teeter totter; a character is thrown against an electric fence and "shocked" but it is played for laughs and he is fine; A few explosions in the film but everyone is fine; a car purposely hits a street lamp to knock out power but the driver is fine; a character punches another character at a therapy session and soon others are hitting one another but it is meant to be played for laughs in a slapstick kind of way; a TV show called "Punch Teacher" has a brief scene of students with boxing gloves on ready to punch their teachers who are restrained but the show is canceled and the Muppets replace them; a bear is hit with a sword.

A man kisses his girlfriend on the cheek; an innuendo might have been intended as a character is adding "balls" to his costume and comments on it.
