“Mama I Want To Sing” follows a family as they struggle to move on after the death of their husband and the father of two budding artists. Amara is a young girl with a beautiful voice. Luke, her brother, is a photographer with a bright future and Lillian Winter, their mother, preaches the Gospel through her Christian television show. Each one exhibits varying degrees of success as they venture forth while trying to maintain the lessons they learned from the past. Unfortunately, they grow apart as each one moves off in their own direction.
While the messages of following your dreams are quaint, the story really centers on each one’s desire to pursue their own path regardless of the other’s advice or guidance. The characters are a little superficial while the acting seems too staged at times. Due to one unfortunate misuse of the name of Jesus, we are not able to award our Dove Seal to this film.
