Animals United

In the African Savannah, all the animals are wondering what happened to the water. It should have been here a long time ago streaming down through a valley from the distant mountains. Their ever increasing thirst turns into real worry, especially as the last remaining water hole is guarded by rivaling buffalo and rhino herds. So brave meerkat Billy and his best buddy, the peaceful lion Socrates, set out in search of water. Billy wants to prove to his son Junior that he's more than just the giddy neurotic everyone makes him out to be, and that his son can be proud of him. On their way, they meet Gallic rooster Charles, who leads a truly wild party: A lady polar bear, a kangaroo, a Tasmanian devil and two Galapagos turtles to Africa. Their faraway homelands have been destroyed, and they hope to find a better future in the Okavango Delta. Of course, human intrusion doesn't stop at this last natural refuge: Resort manager Smith has build a huge dam to collect water for his luxury resort. Here of all places, politicians from around the world have convened for a conference on how to save the environment. So the animals respond to this outrage with a conference of their own: Wise elephant cow Angie calls on all creatures large and small to fight back - it's a true call of the wild for an action-packed adventure full of animal guile and wile.

Dove Review

The colors are vibrant and the characters are memorable in this rollicking animated story of animals that unite together. There are some nice themes featured in this movie, including a father, meerkat Billy, who sets off to show his son Junior he can be a hero. He doesn’t start off very well, but it’s always the end of the journey that counts.

This one we are giving the 12+ Dove Seal to, due to several scenes of animal violence including a man with a rifle who targets the animals and brings down a lion. There are also a few scenes of the animals drinking beer and partying a bit. One of the movie’s themes is global warming and man is made out to be a culprit in the problem. The film concludes at the United Nations building in New York City with a conference.

In more than one scene the lake and water look refreshingly real! The voice work is terrific as it features Andy Serkis and Vanessa Redgrave. This one is a feast for the eyes and it has “captured” our Dove Seal.
