Dove Review

Here is a stirring movie about faith and courage! The actors are terrific in conveying the various emotions of the characters which includes anger, faith, despair and grief.

Young Gertie (Victoria Elizabeth Staley) and her younger sister Izzie (Kyla Kennedy) are living on their own in an apartment since their mother died of cancer. Gertie acts as the mother to Izzie, getting her up for school in the mornings and reminding her to turn the space heater off before she leaves. Gertie also signs the parent slips for her teacher, Mrs. Freeman (Vanessa Williams). Tonya Freeman wants children but she is not sure about her husband Greg (Rockmond Dunbar) who doesn’t seem to be in hurry. The couple have a few intense moments over this fact and anxiously await finding out if one of them cannot parent a child.

When Mrs. Freeman becomes suspicious of Gertie by such things as not being able to pin her down to a time her mother will contact her, and seeing the girls shop alone at the local grocery store, her heart reaches out to help although Gertie is afraid to reveal the truth. Eventually Mr. Freeman’s faith as well as Izzie’s challenges the skepticism of Gertie and Mrs. Freeman regarding God and some decisions as to his existence must be reached. This is a powerful story of faith and a testimony of God’s miracles. We gladly award this movie our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal. Due to a few innuendos and the sophisticated themes, as well as a few utterances of language, it is more suited for twelve and above. This movie is strong in the faith category and many families will enjoy watching this one. This one receives five Doves, our highest rating. Its theme demonstrates that God always has the final say.
