This is a feast for the ears, eyes and imagination! The CGI animation is impressive, with vivid colors, various shadows and degrees of light in scenes, and is very atmospheric as a large part of the movie takes place in the forest. Oh, there’s a story too and not a bad one.
Young Mary Katherine, a teen, is staying with her dad at his old house which serves more as a laboratory. He believes he has seen “little people” and this reputation caused the people in his past, including his now deceased wife, to believe he was losing it. He has remained determined to show everyone that he is not losing touch with reality as he constantly, with great vigilance, searches every clue, trying to nail down the location of the small creatures.
Soon Mary Katherine, called “M.K.” by her friends, finds herself pulled into the world of the little people and becomes an instrument to help out a dying queen’s wish and she meets a young man named Nod too (voiced by Josh Hutcherson), and the sparks fly. We are pleased to award this energetic movie our Dove Seal for ages twelve plus. There is a quest, making sure the pod shines under the moon’s beams in order to select the next queen. And there are themes of loyalty and believing in one’s dream. This is a big movie about small characters but there are no small scenes. You’ll be glad you took your kids to see this one.
