This is a delightful imaginative movie for the entire family. The animation is bursting with vivid colors and is eye candy for the audience. The story is a “prequel” which takes place before “Monsters Inc.” Mike Wazowski (voiced by Billy Crystal) meets Sully (John Goodman) and both hope to win a contest to attend “Monsters University”. The laughs are plenty, the characters delightful, and the 3D I saw was awesome. Everyone, little and big kids alike laughed heartily at the screening I attended. In one scene early in the film Mike finds a nickel on the bus and says, “I wish I had pockets”. Everyone who has seen Mike will appreciate this joke.
Mike and Sully, although not friendly at first, end up on the same team during the “Scare Games”. One comical sign in the cafeteria says, “Go Monsters! Beat Fear Tech!” One of the plot twists in this film is whether or not Mike can be frightening enough to be considered a real “scarer”. The movie features themes of determination and friendship. This delightful film is happily awarded our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal for all ages. Make sure to check if there are any monsters hiding under your bed and when you’re done, see this movie soon!
