“Free Style” shows that heart and determination can get it done! Corbin Bleu does a terrific job portraying Cale Bryant, a young man who was raised in a single-parent home with his younger sister Bailey after their father took off. He has a pretty good life, working at a few jobs to help his mother out and racing in motocross. He hopes to win a spot on the Grand National team, yet he makes time for his family and his girlfriend, big priorities in the likable young man’s life. He keeps a sense of humor, too. Cale and his sister have a black father and white mother. When Bailey asks him if they are white or black, he replies, “We’re whack!”
However, the challenges and obstacles he faces mount as he deals with several stressful situations including his mother being in a car accident, and his girlfriend cheating on him with a rival racer. Yet he meets a new girl and she makes as much time for him as she can, something his old girlfriend didn’t do.
This is an inspiring movie, showing that we all need help from our friends sometimes, but that grit and determination can take us a long way in achieving our goals and living our dreams. This one has earned our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal for ages twelve plus and four Doves, a solid rating.
