“Furious 7” has an action-packed and fast-paced plot, as one would suspect. It also features the last performance of Paul Walker as Brian O’Conner; as most people probably know, Walker died near the end of making this movie. To the filmmakers’ credit, they give him an appropriate send-off in the film: a scene featuring Paul and Vin Diesel, who were good friends behind the camera as well as on screen.
The plot features Jason Statham as Deckard Shaw, who wants revenge after the “good guys,” Dom’s crew, defeated his brother Owen Shaw, who just happened to be an international terrorist. There is a device called “God’s Eye” that both sides want. It is a hacking and tracking device that can locate a person anywhere within minutes and turn tech devices into weapons. There are a couple of energetic one-on-one fights pitting Shaw against Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) and Shaw against Dom (Vin Diesel). There are several amazing scenes of the crew dealing with thrilling and improbable scenarios, such as dropping their cars from planes and using the parachutes to land on the road, then kicking the cars into high gear and high speed. They also have to contend with trees when a chase between the good guys and bad guys takes place in the woods. And there are a few cliffs to navigate as well. The movie features a lot of edge-of-your-seat moments. The humor is done well in spots, and it relieves some of the tension of certain scenes.
The film features themes of loyalty and brotherhood, and has Dom telling Brian, who is finally ready to settle down, that family is the main thing in life. Despite the action and thrilling scenes, the movie contains several utterances of strong language and a variety of scenes of fighting and violence. So, regrettably, we are unable to present “Furious 7” our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal.
