Dove Review

This movie is a nice escape into the entertainment world of good guys versus bad guys. It features a gangster leader named Gates (Tommy Flanagan) and an attorney with a winning streak, Casey McKay (Eric Close), who is determined to defend his ex-brother-in-law Jay (Kevin Sizemore) against a false murder rap. McKay also has his eye on his ex-wife, Pru (Tanya Clarke), and he hopes to win her back. He utilizes the aid of local hotel owner “Ex” Nick Searcy—called Ex because of being an ex-boxer, an ex-husband, etc.

Jay was freed from jail but then met with underworld gangster Gates to “tie up some loose ends” regarding some stolen money. Jay’s son is worried his father will go back to his life of crime instead of taking advantage of his second chance for a crime-free life. Gates is a tough one but he may have met his match in Casey McKay, who is determined that the good guys are going to win. One of the nice things about this drama is that some comedy is peppered into it every so often. For instance, when McKay is not allowed to even bring his pen into the cell to see Jay, he asks, “What’s he going to do, doodle me to death?”

There is a bit of the old West in this modern story, with the good guy and the bad guy ready to draw on each other as the film comes to a climax. Will Jay go free? Will McKay win back his ex? You will have to watch to see. We are awarding our Dove Seal to the movie for ages 12+. This is a good old-fashioned story told in a modern setting. The acting is terrific, the story is interesting, and the ending is nicely done. We’re happy to award Legal Action our Dove Approved Ages 12+ seal.
