Along the Road brings the history and geography of the Bible to life featuring author John “Jack” Beck, Ph.D., in seven episodes. Dr. Beck’s knowledge is formidable. As a professor of Geology and Archaeology, Dr. Beck is an Old and New Testament scholar. He speaks of the Bible being “layer upon layer” and how various stories reveal yet another hidden layer and story underneath. Dr. Beck’s vivid storytelling and his trek to the Bible lands of old makes for an intriguing experience and entertaining documentary.
Dr. Beck gives examples of his “layer upon layer” theory when he mentions Bethlehem and how it not only was the location of Jesus’s birth, but the place Ruth and Naomi once dwelt when Ruth met Boaz. And through Ruth would come David and eventually the Son of David, Jesus. Dr. Beck’s striking comments brings the Bible to life. For example, he remembers when Adam and Eve knew God was near and told him they had hidden themselves because they were naked and “afraid.” As Dr. Beck teaches, the first thing the angel said when Jesus was about to be born was, “Fear not.” His narrative of Solomon riding to his coronation on a donkey and Jesus doing the same as he rode into Jerusalem is dramatically and powerfully told. He shows how the Bible lines up in ways the viewer might not have known.
This beautiful series features lush and amazing nature scenes, powerful streams and magnificent mountains, not to mention old city remains. See the mount where Jesus gave his famous Sermon on the Mount and also handed out the Great Commission to his disciples. As the subtitle name of this series suggests—see how Jesus used geography to tell God’s story. Ancient places like Decapolis, Nain, and several other locations are utilized nicely in the film. This movie will take you back—in a good way! We are pleased to award this film our Faith Friendly All Ages Seal.
