Puppy Star Christmas opens during the wedding of dog actors P.U.P. and Tiny, working up to a gospel-singing exit full of hip-swinging, hand-clapping color. Four months later, stressed and frazzled human family members Steven and Lou, Latino nanny Ida and business manager Shep frantically prepare for the delivery of four precious pups, Brodie, Charlie, Rosie and Cindy.
Not so precious are three trash can-diving dog villains, Kano, Julio and Bark, and despicable human Roland, who are not too thrilled with their stinky situation. When they find out P.U.P. and Tiny will be hosting a TV Christmas special, they concoct a dastardly plan to waylay Santa’s workshop, kidnap Santa, and crash the live TV special with a fake Santa (Roland) singing a fake message that equates to mucho money in their pockets. Despite suspicion from Santa’s hardworking and humorous elves, the villians overtake Santa, hijack the sleigh and commandeer Christmas! Set on changing the true Christmas meaning of family love and fellowship, fake Santa parks his hijacked sleigh on the studio rooftop, and descends upon the stage merrily singing that it’s okay to be naughty; who cares about nice. Now, the only thing cuter than tiny, silky puppies are tiny, silky puppies in a Christmas show, but unbeknownst to all, the naughty little canines jingle away from the set, sneaking a ride in Santa’s hijacked sleigh, and the dirty dognappers see their greedy opportunity to profit from a handsome ransom … Mwaa-hahahaha! Fortunately while Roland, Kano and Bark are away, Julio has been befriended by the sequestered Santa and Mrs. Santa. Their timeless book of Naughty and Nice reveals Julio as a pup in Mexico and the loss of his family, which turned him away from nice. They also reveal a depressing event in Roland’s childhood, which upon his return causes a change of heart. In true Christmas spirit, Roland and Julio free Santa’s workshop and deliver the prized puppies to their anxious family.
Puppy Star Christmas, produced by Air Bud Entertainment, brings us the familiar canine entertainment all wrapped up in precious with a bow on top. The supporting human actors schtick the candies to the gingerbread, delivering a batch of Christmas humor. This sweet movie is Dove Approved All Ages.
