This movie is an adventure all the way! Kids will want to be like the hero of this film, a boy named Chris. He is given a dinosaur egg by the ghost of the owner of an unusual antique shop, and when it hatches in his bedroom, Chris is in for amazing adventures. However, there is always a foil in every good adventure, and in this one, it is Dr. Yost, a scientist, who learns of the dinosaur and is soon out to swipe him away from Chris. Dr. Yost has visions of wealth and fame. But Chris is loyal to Albert, the name he gives his pet dinosaur, and he won’t give him up without a fight. To Chris, Albert is his faithful companion and pet.
This fascinating film features the theme of great devotion. Chris is loyal to Albert as most kids would be to their pets. He and Albert become good friends and share an adventure in the woods as they flee from their pursuers. And when the owner of the shop somehow shows up in a dune buggy, he and Chris become fast friends as they band together to protect Albert and to allow him to live out his life in the woods. Albert grows at an alarming rate and part of the fun of the movie is seeing him attain a large height. Yet Albert’s loyalty to Chris never sways. There is dino humor too: in one scene, a teacher at the museum with kids sees the bones of a dinosaur and comments, “It looks like he’s not eaten for millions of years!”
One of the many enjoyable scenes is when Albert gets loose in the produce section of the grocery store. He takes a liking to tomatoes. This movie contains a few scenes of law officials with rifles but none of the scenes are overly violent, and therefore the film merits the Dove-Approved Seal for All Ages.
The Dove Take
