Dove Review

The Synopsis:

The flightless birds and scheming green pigs take their feud to the next level.

The Review:

The Angry Birds Movie 2 isn’t looking to do very much—and succeeds. It puts all its eggs in one basket: detailed animation, basic jokes, simple story. And it manages to carry them through the credits. Is it formulaic fluff? Probably. But what does one expect from a sequel to a film based on a video game?

It could entertain some and frustrate others. One viewer may think it’s pleasant and silly amusement, while someone else may think it’s a waste of the very apparent creative talent and energy invested in the film. Is it an example of what makes cartoons fun? Or what keeps cartoons from being more fun?

There is an emphasis on teamwork, with a character saying, “We are strongest when we all band together,” and it winds up helping the characters. But, shortly after watching the film, someone may forget what happened to that missing hour and a half-ish of their day.

There’s also some content that may be rough. There’s plenty of humor that’s crude, arguing, and an unmarried couple of birds (the bride was abandoned on her wedding day) having a baby. As far as violence goes, it’s very much of the Saturday morning cartoon variety.

It has some fine animation and moments worth a chuckle but feels low-flying, with some low-brow moments. The Angry Birds Movie 2 is Dove-Approved for Ages 12+.
