Dove Review

The Synopsis:

When the sudden death of Luke’s pregnant wife turns his world upside down, he must pick up the pieces as he raises his daughter and in time discovers a second chance for love.

The Review:

Doctor Luke Matthews (Randy Wayne) is living the good life with a successful career, a loving wife and his first child on the way. Suddenly, his world is turned upside down when his wife begins hemorrhaging. Tragically, the doctors are unable to save her. As Luke deals with this heartbreaking loss, he tries to navigate life with his newborn daughter Jessee. His overbearing mother (Adrienne Barbeau) tries to step in to help, but Luke comes to the realization that he needs to hire a live-in nanny.

That’s when Luke crosses paths with Sage Smith (Mandahla Rose), one of his patients, who coincidentally delivered her stillborn baby the same night Luke’s wife died. With a boyfriend no longer in the picture and now childless, Sage is desperate for something good in her life. When Luke discovers Sage’s background as a nanny, he hires her to care for Jessee.

As their two lives begin to intertwine, their appreciation for each other soon develops into something more. Despite Luke’s mom’s attempts to come between them, they fall in love. Eventually, Luke’s mom accepts Sage. In the end, Luke helps Sage deliver their newborn son. However, it is not clear if Luke and Sage get married since neither of them wears a wedding ring.

For the Love of Jessee is sure to tug on your heartstrings as well as fill you with joy as you experience the tragedy of loss followed by the triumph of love. Due to implied premarital sex, revealing clothing and scenes of drinking and drunkenness, the film earns our Dove-approved for Ages 12+ seal for its positive example of integrity and second chances.
