Alice (Meggan Kaiser) loves being a chef, and only a sous chef for now, but with big dreams! Bret (Maurice Johnson), her boyfriend, who runs the kitchen, is bossy and demands the best from everyone and sometimes undermines her culinary expertise. She just sighs.
They are expecting Janet Silver, the food critic who can be ruthless, and the kitchen goes into panic mode! When Janet reacts to her parsley allergy, Alice is devastated and the restaurant will not make the top team list. Alice is totally deflated when Bret tells her no more fancy culinary school recipes.
Daniela (Patty Lambert), hotel magnate, is instrumental in raising funds for the St. Andrew’s Children’s Hospital and the next fund raiser is a cooking competition. Daniela encourages her nephew, Christian (Scot Cooper) who will eventually take over the family business, to be a judge. When Alice receives an invitation to be a judge at the cooking competition, Bret puts her down and demands she stay and to help out at the prestigious gala event he has been asked to cater. Her friends encourage her to follow her dreams and she does just that and is picked up at the Kansas airport by a chauffeur with champagne in the limo. She is wowed!
The evening reception for judges holds a shocking surprise when Alice and Christian, her old college boyfriend, run into each other, and Alice discovers he is Daniela’s nephew!
As the cooking competition proceeds, Christian and Alice are enjoying each other’s company and reminiscing. Daniela reveals she would like to retire but most importantly have another chance at love.
When Bret surprises Alice with his arrival in Kansas, Christian is visibly disappointed. Bret gives Alice the exciting news they are opening a restaurant where she will be the head chef, BUT he will still be in charge and she is to make a simple menu with no fancy stuff.
As she continues to reconnect with Christian, Alice knows that to make her dreams come true, she will need to make some serious decisions about her future career and where she wants to be in matters of the heart.
The Dove Take:
If you love what you do, you will never work another day in your life. If you love who you’re with, you will never be lonely another day in your life. An inspiring movie for the entire family and Dove-approved for All Ages.
