My Louisiana Sky
Tiger Ann Parker (Kelsey Keel) is growing up on a small farm outside Saitter, Louisiana. She is the bright child of developmentally challenged parents, Corrina (Amelia Campbell) and Lonnie (Chris Owens). They all live under the capable and watchful eye of Tiger’s grandmother, Jewel (Shirley Knight). Despite Tiger’s love for her parents, they are becoming more of an embarrassment to her. Tiger is delighted when her beloved Aunt Dorie Kay (Juliette Lewis) makes a surprise visit to the Parker farm. She is unaware of the tension between Dorie Kay and her mother, as she is too busy dreaming about being sophisticated and glamorous like her aunt. Guiltily, she also confides in Jewel that she wishes her own mother could be more like a “real” mother.
When Tiger’s Granny suddenly dies, Tiger can’t imagine how they will ever go on without her. To her relief, Dorie Kay returns to make the funeral arrangements and get things settled. She then takes Tiger back to Baton Rouge to pick up her maid, Magnolia, who, Dorie Kay has decided, will help the family get back on their feet in Saitter. During Tiger’s short trip to Baton Rouge, Dorie Kay attempts to subtly transform Tiger into a city girl and even suggests she come and live with her permanently. The offer is tempting, but Tiger feels guilty at the thought of leaving her parents, especially when she discovers the shocking secret that her mother was not born developmentally challenged. Just when Tiger decides to move to Baton Rouge, a disaster strikes Saitter, which ultimately helps Tiger realize how much she loves her parents and how much they love her. Tiger finally appreciates what she has and where she truly belongs. “My Louisiana Sky” premiers on Showtime, 5/13/01 at 8:00 PM (ET/PT).
