Searching For Debra Winger

Rosasnna Arquette has assembled a group of actressess in their 30's and 40's who seem to consider themselves 'over the hill', due to Hollywood's Youth Mentality. The title comes from Arquette's observation that Debra Winger had "left the business and I thought it would be great to talk to her about why she left." . Out of that statement, she assembled these women: Jane Fonda, Darryl Hannah Sharon Stone, Meg Ryan, Vanessa Redgrave and Debra Winger, sharing their thoughts about their careers, their lives and their observations of the entire Hollywood culture.

Dove Review

I personally found this to be a testament to the ego’s of these women, whose entire focus in life seems to be themselves and their careers. Many of them spoke about their children and “putting them first”, but from this reviewer’s perspective they were speaking words for ‘on camera’ affect, and the words certainly didn’t resonate in my heart. Whoopi Goldberg was at least honest in her commentary, when she said: “I made a conscious decision to go ahead and pursue a career that had been handed to me at, I think, the expense of my child.” She then goes on to acknowledge she “was selfish, …..and it was hard for her [daughter], and you want to stop the cycle,…….but I don’t know if you can.” Her conclusion? That she could have “done it a lot differently”. Would she have “No” is her resounding reply. Her ego won over the needs of her daughter. Listening to these women reflect on their careers, sans make-up, drinking, many of them smoking, was not uplifting nor even interesting to this reviewer.
