Anna and The King – Edited

This lovely and lavish remake of the story of Anna Leonowens, the English woman who arrived in Siam in 1862 to educate the King of Siam's children is remarkably well done. Anna soon upsets the king with her bold independence of spirit. The king comes to respect her, and eventually finds himself in love with her. There are struggles within his court and battles against his kingdom, and he listens to Anna's wisdom on several occasions.

Dove Review

This lavish production is well worth viewing by families and teen agers. Very young children won’t grasp the many layers of themes presented, even though many scenes involve young children. I enjoyed watching this more than the original one in which Yul Brynner/Deborah Kerr starred, because the political climate of the time was presented and the emotional levels were more intense. The themes of respect for other cultures, family love and loyalty are prevalent. Enjoy!
