I’m a Gene Hackman fan: I like “French Connection”, and “The Firm”, to name only two of my favs. Hackman doesn’t disappoint in this film, but he also doesn’t bring you into the action enough that you care about the characters. Hackman’s wife, many years younger than he, uses her sexuality to sway back and forth between Hackman and another bad guy. Hackman’s expertise in planning for the final score; a gold shipment, seems to be anticipating outcomes. He’s always there with a solution, when Plan A disintrigates: Plan B unfolds and voila! they’re all ok, and once again, no one walks the perp walk. The final score involves gold and I found the plan to get the gold to be quite improbable. I’m not recommending this as a good suspense/thriller, but if you’re into this genre, then by all means do buy it and enjoy. I defininetly wouldn’t have wanted to watch the R version, which I’m certain was peppered with foul language. It’s great to have this edited version.
