Dove Review

In the beginning of the episode, “Of Hearts and Hunters,” Jodi has a dream about a woman in a bridal gown with blood on it. In the dream, the woman gives Jodi two wedding rings and begs her to take them. After doing some research, she discovers there is another member of the Mcleod family—Emma McLeod. Jodi tells Tayler she is thinking of asking Rob to move in with her, and he shows Alex a ring and says he is going to ask her to marry him.

Matt and Jodi go into the field to try to uncover the mystery of these rings and this woman, and someone in the distance points a gun at her, but then takes off. Matt, on his way into town, sees a car who flashes his lights at him to pull over. But when he pulls over next to Tayler, the car takes off. Jodi talks to someone at the fair who uncovered that Emma’s fiancée was killed by gunshot.

Jodi and Matt are followed by an ominous man and taken to an abandoned building. Matt tells her he has been found and needs to go back into the witness protection program and she cannot go with him. After going home, Jodi talks to Stevie who tells her she needs to follow her heart. Jodi finds Matt right before he leaves and says she is going with him. She says goodbye to her sisters, never to see them again. As the sisters drive away, they see an explosion in the distance. When they return, they find Jodi and  Matt died in the explosion. Four days later, Kate arrives demanding to know who did this and what happened. Stevie, Regan and Kate all want answers to their cousin’s and sister’s death.

Rachel Carpani delivers a great performance as Jodi, who has to decide between leaving Drover’s Run, her home for many years, or go be with the man she loves. The episode also does a great job of interweaving the story of Emma McLeod whose husband dies on the ranch many years before and her choice to go be with Matt. There is some mild violence including gun shots fired and a man running for his life. There is only mild language as well and light sexual content. It earns the Dove award seal for ages 12 and up.
