Open Range – Edited

Open Range is a gripping story that's never been told until now. Rubert Duvall and Kevin Costner star in this story of a group of free grazers, men who freely roam the west with their horses/cattle, as well as escaping their pasts. They drive their cattle on the open range, while living off the land. When a ruthless, evil rancher tries to run them out of town, the men's peaceful existence takes a tumultuous turn and ends in the grittiest, most explosive gunfight on film as two men battle a town for honor, justice and a way of life that's quickly disappearing.

Dove Review

This is a well made western, with a wonderful story line that depicts the age-old battle between good and evil. Costner and Duvall flow extremely well in their respective roles: Duvall’s the boss, and that’s also his screen name-“Boss”, while Costner is the counterpoint in their characterizations of two men who’ve been real bad in the past, and now really want to live lives of integrity out in the open range. There are two other men who make up the foursome and they each lend perspective to the story, as well as working their way into one’s heart. When the battle line is drawn, with the evil rancher in town, the violence is inevitable and expected. Dove just barely awards the Dove Seal to this one, because of the gritty, and almost constant killing in the last portion of the film.
