Miracle on 34th Street (1994)

The 1947 holiday classic "Miracle on 34th Street" is transplanted to the 1990's with few changes in this family-oriented remake. Neither Dorey Walker nor her young daughter Susan believe much in the spirit of Christmas. Dorey is in charge of hiring Macy's Santas, including an old man named Kris Kringle. He does a convincing job, and he soon reveals that he actually believes himself to be the real Santa Claus. The authorities threaten to put him in an insane asylum, but a young lawyer comes to his defense. Meanwhile, Dorey and Susan find their own defenses melting and become reacquainted with the power of faith.

Dove Review

This is a great remake of the classic. The characters are brilliant and they play their roles flawlessly. It obviously has a more modern feel than the original with the movie set in modern day New York with department stores, lawyers, and the modern conveniences of life today. John Hughes did a really great job transferring the original idea of the movie into the modern day. It has a really good message that encourages everyone everywhere to go for what you believe in and to never give up. Unfortunately, in the language category there is one word which prevents us from awarding the Dove Seal for all ages; instead, the Seal is awarded at a 12+ level.
