The Patriot – Edited

Benjamin Martin is a reluctant hero who is swept into the American Revolution when the war reaches his home and threatens his family. A hero of the fierce French and Indian conflict, Martin had renounced fighting forever to raise his family in peace. But when the British arrive at his South Carolina home and endanger what he holds most dear, Martin takes up arms alongside his idealistic patriot son, Gabriel, and leads a brave rebel Militia into battle against a relentless and overwhelming English army. In the process, he discovers the only way to protect his family is to fight for a young nation's freedom.

Dove Review

This movie was originally rated R for strong war violence. In the edited version there is still a war, but there is none of the graphic, bloody violence of the original. You can tell that people are dying, but there isn’t blood and guts spilling out everywhere. Basically, Mel Gibson plays an early settler war veteran watching as another war begins to break out. His wife has just recently died and now his teenage son wants to go to war. But Martin doesn’t want to lose another one of his family members. His son, Gabriel, goes to war anyway and returns home a while later wounded. Martin takes care of his son but soon more wounded arrive at his house from both sides of the line. The British army shows up at his home and kills his youngest son because he was helping the wounded of the enemy. Martin takes up his things and goes to fight for his family, his land, and his country.
