This film, based on the Biblical account of the book of Esther, is well made with a strong cast which includes various ethnicities that accurately reflect the characters in the story. Young Tiffany Dupont stands out in her vivid portrayal of the queen. She brings innocence, charm, and a strong resolve to the character of Esther. Her purity of character touches the king’s heart. It is a story of destiny, as Mordecai tells Esther, “Who can say but that God has brought you into the palace for just such a time as this?”
There are some stabbings in the film and a man is struck with a stick, but little blood is shown. The sensuality is brief, which includes a scene which shows the king shirtless. There is a festival of sorts which includes drinking. The story moves along at a steady pace. The plot is resolved in a satisfying manner and there is irony in the resolutions of the plot as well. “One Night with the King” should be viewed one evening with the family! We recommend it for viewing for ages twelve and above
