This is one hilarious DVD, which includes the best of Bob Hope’s Christmas specials over the years. The culled clips are very entertaining and the guest list is impressive, which includes Jack Benny, Bing Crosby, Red Skelton, Lucille Ball, Barbara Eden, Shirley Jones, and many, many more. Bob’s wife Delores and his family also show up in a few clips. The clips cover the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s.
An example of one funny moment is when Bob slips and calls Freddy the Freeloader (Red Skelton) “Red.” Red replies, “The name is Freddy.” Bob and he do their best (unsuccessfully) to suppress the laughter. “Well, you look like your brother Red!” Hope tells him. In another part of the routine, Freddy tells Bob that he was robbed of all his silver-“Two dimes and a quarter!” he says. There are many more great quips and punchlines in this DVD. And the viewer will see some of Bob’s overseas trips as he traveled at Christmastime to entertain the troops.
Another nice feature presents Bob singing “Silver Bells” with various ladies including Reba McEntire and Shirley Jones. There are a few strong words in the presentation, most of which are uttered during the bloopers feature, but none that prevent us from awarding our Dove Seal to this hilarious DVD.
