“Follow the River” is a wonderful story of courage, determination and sacrifice. The story is engaging right from the start and continues to hold your attention until the very end. The pioneer family seemed to forget their heritage a bit as they slipped in and out of an Irish accent throughout the movie. Another woman also seemed to be trying too hard to act Native American. But, these two things were only minor distractions in an otherwise gripping story.
The only content mentionable was some mild violence such as a man killed with an arrow and a woman that was shot. There was no blood and gore, but it is certainly worth mentioning for those very young viewers. There was also a scene where two people had to run through a whipping line to prove their courage but again, there was no blood. “Follow the River” is a fantastic family film and easily earns the Dove Seal.
