In 1971 girls’ basketball was thought of as something that girls did in gym class, not as a competitive sport. It was thought of as only a boy’s game during this era. Girls or women were not viewed as being athletes. This is an inspiring story of one small all-girls Catholic college, on the verge of closing, which produces a winning basketball team. The odds are against them from the beginning but their new coach, Kathy, has a dream and a goal for the girls and also for herself. This is based on a true story and is about commitment and team work along with one woman’s dream. It is a dream that was carried on by these talented girls who had the courage to play the game of basketball as they struggled with personal problems and insecurities. This is truly a heartwarming story about one team that helped forge changes in the world of women’s sports. We award “The Mighty Macs” our Dove “Family-Approved” Seal for all ages.
