Dove Review

This latest installment in the “Harry Potter” series is part one of the final movie and part two will screen next year. The entertainment factor is present in this one as in the others, with fantastic special effects and dark creatures which Harry, Hermione and Ron must overcome. We also learn what “hallows’ means in reference to the title. It is nice to see loyalty and honoring one’s parentage as a couple of the nice themes in the movie too. There is a lot of dialog in the film with several twists in the plot and if you have not read the book or seen previous films, as a viewer you would be lost in spots. However, most people who would watch would be those who are already quite familiar with the books and movies.

We wish to note that there is a scene in which one character is hurt on his upper arm and shoulder and it was rather graphic and bloody, with tendons or muscles being seen. The violence level borders on a three, which would automatically place it outside of our family approval level but we cannot award our Dove Seal to the film at any rate, as we have not awarded it to other films in this series, simply because of the scenes such as the one which takes place in which one character mentions having placed curses on a character. We realize it is a fantasy film and some of our readers may believe we are being too strict, but we would rather make a mistake on the side of caution rather than be too liberal in approving movies for family viewing. At any rate, the content listing is below and we suggest families consult it carefully. It was nice to hear a couple of “Merry Christmas” greetings uttered in the movie.
