What a cute movie! And though kids will love it, parents will enjoy a few moments which were designed with adults in mind. For example, one gnome is accused of being illiterate and he replies, “But my parents were married!” The animation is wonderful and the characters are delightful. The dialog is snappy and witty and the colors are vivid. In particular, the colors blue and red because the gnomes are blue and red and don’t get along with one another. So, naturally, Gnomeo is blue and Juliet is red! And they fall in love. And this difference represents the class differences of Shakespeare’s original tragic telling of this tale. But there is no tragedy in this fun-filled and energetic film. When it appears that all hope is lost…well, I won’t plot spoil but let’s just say the kiddies will enjoy the ending.
