What would you do if your young son was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer? This is the question that faced the Locke family when Dax, their two year old boy, entered St. Jude Hospital for treatment. The family experiences a roller-coaster of emotions as Dax becomes sick, shows improvement and then becomes sick again. This moving story put a lump in my throat and my heart broke as I watched this family struggle to understand what was happening to their precious child.
The movie has some happy moments thanks to Dax’s unbreakable spirit and the eventual realization by his parents that they should “cherish every moment” they have left with him. When Dax is released from the hospital because the treatment has not worked, his father puts up a Christmas tree in October to give his son one last Christmas experience. As the Locke families’ neighbors find out about their situation, they all decorate for Christmas too and the experience moves another family to make decisions in their own lives to slow down their pace and cherish every moment.
Dove is pleased to award our “Family-Approved” Seal for all ages to this inspirational movie but we encourage you to watch this together as a family so you can discuss these situations with your younger children as the more sensitive members of your family may be moved to tears when viewing this emotional story.
