Darkness has settled over New York City as Shredder and his evil Foot Clan have an iron grip on everything from the police to the politicians. The future is grim until four unlikely outcast brothers rise from the sewers and discover their destiny as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles must work with fearless reporter April O’Neil and her cameraman Vern Fenwick to save the city and unravel Shredder’s diabolical plan.
Many years ago, some of us watched a charming cartoon called “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” with our children. The cartoon featured 4 turtles, their martial arts master Splinter (a rat) and a human reporter named April who fought the evil Shredder and his band of villains. These charming turtles became heroes for many of our children. Well, they are back but this time in stunning 3D live action/animation.Splinter has raised his turtle “sons” right. Trying to keep them safe and out of trouble in the sewers teaching them the ways of ninjas. (While the proper use of the term “Ninja” refers to assassins, these comical turtle brothers are kind and seek to help those in need as they use their martial arts talents for good and not evil purposes) In this reboot of the franchise, we learn how their mutation took place and because of that the evil Shedder and his followers want to use the turtle’s power to take over the city. The four brothers along with reporter April O’Neal have to save the city of New York. The movie is fast paced and there is a great deal of fighting with guns, electric prods, a few explosions and hand to hand combat but none of the violence is gratuitous or over the top. As with the original cartoon series, many lessons are learned and virtues portrayed such as the importance of friendship, family, working together and believing in one another. We are pleased to award this movie the Dove “Family-Approved” Seal for ages 12 and over.
