The cute little Jack Russell terrier named Russell is the runt of the litter at the pet store, and he so badly wants to be adopted by a family. But due to his inappropriate urination problem when he gets scared, the pet store manager is reluctant to allow customers to take him home. When Russell hears a conversation between the store manager and an employee about having to be sent to the dog pound, he takes his chances and runs away. This leads him to connect with the Ferraro family, a talking monkey named Monk, and a new career.
