Dove Review

The second time around for Sammy and Ray is no disappointment! This filmic team has improved dramatically on this ongoing narrative of sea adventures, with the same spectacularly detailed animation and engaging soundtrack. This time, it is Sammy’s and Ray’s grandkids, Ricky and Ella, who are hatched and ready to be on their own. Humans, the clear antagonists in the story, capture all four of them and sell Sammy and Ray to the world’s largest aquarium in Dubai, while the lucky grandchildren break free.

Big D, the seahorse, is the kingpin of this place and encourages the other comical captives to help facilitate his tired old plan for a great escape. But with their new friends, Jumbo the bug-eyed blowfish and Lu the snippy lobster, along with a whole family of penguins and some inky squid, Sammy and Ray hatch breakout plans of their own in an effort to find Ricky and Ella and return to freedom.

The sequel moves back and forth between the adventures and escapades of both the grandkids and Sammy and Ray, who learn the inner workings of the giant aquarium and enlist others to team up with them. As in the first movie, there are plenty of chase scenes and dramatic close calls, but this time there is more of a cohesive storyline—a definite climax and more meaningful resolution as the family reunion highlights the themes of perseverance, hope, and love.

We are proud to award this series the Dove-Approved Seal for All Ages.
