This Halloween story is a delight! It features lovable characters Beezbee, Peanut, and Brooklyn, as they try to narrow down where the Halloween party is to take place. But no one seems to know. Buttercup tells the trio she doesn’t know where it will be, but she intends to just follow the crowd!
For those who enjoy Halloween, this is the movie for you. It opens with appropriate lines such as, “Tricks and treats are awaiting, for those brave enough to go get them.” And, another suitable line is, “A fun, spooky chill is in the air!”
Beezbee practices a witch’s laugh, commenting that, “it’s been a whole year!” Beezbee likes to go out as a witch to “put dance spells” on people! And, sure enough, just a tiny bit into the show and the gang begins to dance an up-tempo Halloween dance. Santa even shows up to add, “Happy almost-Halloween everybody!” Santa doesn’t recognize the trio at first, due to their Halloween costumes. Peanut is dressed as Egyptian royalty, Beezbee as a witch, and Brooklyn as a pirate. Humorously, Santa says he is going as “Mittens” and “Mittens” plans to go dressed as Santa.
Since it’s a mystery as to where the Halloween party will take place, the gang does a Halloween Mystery dance. In fact, several dances are featured in this animated film, at various tempos – some fast and others a bit slower. Lolly the dragon doesn’t have a clue as to where the party is either and Brooklyn jokes that maybe someone stole all the invitations. In one song a bit of eerie music is featured, and lines that go, “Shine your flashlights and search for frights!” And they wonder, is a cranky ghost going to haunt the party?
In another funny incident, the famous Ghostbusters line is featured. “Who ya gonna call?” asks Brooklyn. “A copyright lawyer,” laughs Peanut in reply. A few more dances take place and it’s suggested the trio go to Shelly the turtle to see if she can find party news online. Humorously, Shelly comments she wants to go as a Teenage Ninja Turtle to mimic one of her four famous cousins! Shelly suggests that Fritz the monkey may have the missing invitations to the Halloween bash.
Fritz, the ice cream selling monkey, says he has some ghostly ice cream that is sure to give them the “shivers”. Peanut jokingly asks if they will have to get in some “exorcise” exercise. Before the ending arrives, a few more dances are included, featuring a “crunch on your knees and then jump real high dance”! By movie’s conclusion, a “Have a happy, safe, loving Halloween” send-off is given.
Think about it: Parents can have a good discussion about the “fun” aspects of Halloween, such as trick-or-treating, getting candy, dressing up, and having fun with friends. And it would be an opportune time to discuss that souls depart this life at death, bound for an eternal destination but they do not have to fear “ghosts” and that the Lord has provided eternal salvation for us. Parents can make the point that the “ghosts” of Halloween should just be in good fun, with kids dressed up, and for them to not be fearful.
