Zathura: A Space Adventure

In this sci-fi adventure based on the best-selling book by children’s writer Chris Van Allsburg, Walter and Danny Budwing (Josh Hutcherson and Jonah Bobo) are bickering brothers. When their dad (Tim Robbins) leaves the house on an errand, the sibling rivalry grows more intense until Danny sends Walter into the dark basement. There Walter discovers Zathura, a strange old game about spaceships and aliens. Danny reluctantly agrees to play, but as their spaceships begin to traverse the board, the pair discovers that Zathura magically transports their house into outer space. Whatever happens in the game happens in real life. Now the only way that the brothers can make it back to Earth is to work together to finish the game.

Dove Review

Travel the galaxy with two young un-expecting space pilots in this board game come to life. Zathura may be their destination, but the trip is where the action is at. Like in “Jumanji,” the only way to end the adventure is to finish the game.

This film has plenty of action and suspense as well as some very humorous parts. The language isn’t as bad as it could be, and the violence is mild except for the house being demolished. All in all, this is a fun family adventure that most will enjoy. It may be a little too scary for very young viewers, but your older children will have a blast.
