The Maze Runner: The Death Cureis the third installment in this movie trilogy and brings the story to an action-packed and bombastic conclusion. The return of a character from the first movie and some unexpected twists add a few surprises in this concluding film. In addition, not everyone survives the battle between WCKD and its brazen soldier and the heroes that stand up to them. For movie-goers that are unaware, WCKD stands for World In Catastrophe: Killzone Experiment Department, which is abbreviated to WICKED or WCKD in the movie. It is an organization that was originally formed to find a cure for the virus that is plaguing the world, turning people into zombie-like creatures. But now WCKD is determined to find a cure for only a select group.
The movie is to be commended for the sacrifices—even ultimate sacrifices—that some characters make in order to save others. And it also does a good job in showing, by the actions of a particular female character, that people can change or atone for past mistakes and make it right. Regrettably, as in the previous two installments, the violence level and use of continual strong language prevents us from awarding the film our Dove Seal. For those that have followed the first two movies, this one will leave them with a bittersweet feeling of loss but at the same time a satisfying conclusion as the story is resolved in a very clear manner.
